Privacy Policy

What we collect

From parents:

• Account details (email address and sign-in credentials), handled by our authentication provider, Clerk.
• The profiles you create (a profile name, the YouTube channels you choose, and any limits you set, such as daily minutes or blocked Shorts).

From a paired device:

• A pairing token that links the device to one profile. It contains no personal information.
• Watch time per channel, so your time limits work. We record durations, not viewing behavior beyond what you see in your dashboard.

What we don't collect

• No child accounts: children never sign in and we never ask them for personal information.
• No advertising identifiers, no cross-app tracking, no data brokers.
• No contacts, location, photos, microphone, or camera access.

YouTube playback

Videos play through YouTube’s official privacy-enhanced embed (youtube-nocookie.com). When a video plays, Google receives the technical information any video stream requires and processes it under the Google Privacy Policy. We use the privacy-enhanced mode, which does not use cookies to personalize viewing. Video lists and thumbnails are fetched by our servers via the YouTube API Services. Your child’s device does not query YouTube’s API directly.

Analytics and error reporting

On the parent web dashboard we use PostHog (product analytics) and Sentry (error reporting) to understand usage and fix bugs. These run only on the parent-facing website, not in the child-facing device app. The device app contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.

Our own server counts a small number of device-app milestones: when the pairing screen is shown; when the optional demo feed opens, starts a video, or sends someone to parent setup; when a device is paired; and when watching starts on a given day. Demo milestones are aggregate and anonymous. Paired milestones are counted against the parent’s account. We never send a child’s device identifier, pairing code, profile name, or the title or channel of anything watched to these services.

If you reached us through a link that carried campaign tags (for example from a search result, a post, or an ad), we record which marketing channel and campaign that link belonged to and store it with your account, so we can tell which channels are worth continuing. We keep the channel and campaign labels and the page you landed on, never the full web address you came from, and never the search terms you typed.

Children's privacy

Brain-feed is operated for parents. The only child-related data we store is what the parent enters (a profile name) and aggregate watch time used to enforce the parent’s limits. This data exists solely to provide the service the parent configured, is visible to the parent in the dashboard, and is never used for advertising or profiling.

Where data lives and how long

Data is stored with our hosting providers (Vercel, including its KV storage, and Clerk for authentication). We keep it for as long as your account exists. Unpairing a device invalidates its token; deleting a profile deletes its channels, limits, and watch history; deleting your account removes everything.

Your rights

You can access and change everything we store about your family from the dashboard at any time. To delete your account or request a copy of your data, email us and we’ll handle it promptly.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above. For material changes we’ll notify parents by email before they take effect.
